Thanksgiving calls us to reflect on God’s abundant goodness, but for many neighboring families, setting a holiday table this year is a struggle. Through Families Helping Families, a 40+ year tradition of love in action, our parish community partners with local parishes and food pantries to make sure no family is forgotten.
When we share what we have, we live out our mission as Christ’s hands and feet, turning gratitude into hope for those who need food assistance most.

purchase groceries
- Purchase the attached list and pack all items together in a single reusable grocery bag
- Include a check for for they turkey. Place the check in an envelope, and staple it to the outside of the reusable grocery bag. The check should be made payable to St. Pius X Church.
- Drop off your bag of groceries in the Church Entranceway on the weekends of November 7 / 8 and November 14/ 15 when you come to Mass

Monetary donation
- Cash and checks (made out to St. Pius X Church) should be placed in an envelope marked ‘Families Helping Families.’ These can be turned in at the Info Desk, placed in the offertory baskets or mailed to St. Pius X Rectory Office (3300 Moreland Place, Bowie, MD 20715)
- Please make sure your donations arrive by Sunday, Nov. 15th

DELIVERY
- Using your own vehicle, you’ll transport turkeys and / or Thanksgiving Baskets
- You can volunteer to assist with delivery for one or both of the following times:
- Thursday, November 19th at 4:00 pm: deliver 100 bags of groceries to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Largo, MD
- Saturday, November 21st at 9:00 am: deliver turkeys to either Assumption Parish in S.E. Washington, DC or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Largo, MD.
- We ask that no small children be with you for deliveries
- Volunteers must be able to lift and carry full bags of groceries or cartons containing 4 turkeys each.

packing & shopping
- Pack food bags/baskets on Monday, Nov. 16th at 7 pm (adults only please)
- Shop for groceries on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 1 pm (adults only please)

carry bags into church
- Help parishioners carry bags of groceries from their cars into the Church Entranceway before all Masses on Saturday, November 14 and / or Sunday, November 15.
